Dustin & Kelly walk to over to Eva & Novy. Bryan makes his way towards Marissa while Patrick just stands there.

Dustin- So glad you made it baby girl (he hugs Eva)
Kelly- My sweet Novy (he puts his arm around Novy)
Patrick- Gah lee! You act like you haven’t seen your girls in ages!
Kelly- It feels like it
Dustin- I feel you
Bryan- Hey Marissa, I got some jawbreakers you want one?
Marissa- Yes cutie

Bryan blushes while he hands her a jawbreaker from his pocket.

Dustin- Well since we all here I’d like to introduce ya’ll. Dane
Dane- Yeah
Dustin- This is Eva
Kelly- This Novy
Carnell- And this Sammi
Dustin- Ladies, this is Dane, Lalani, & Marissa
We all get to our greetings when my mom walks into the back room.

Mom- Okay boys, I just want to introduce myself. My name is Justina Batista
Patrick- Nice to meet you Mrs. Batista
Mom- Oh just call me Justina, well I notice you all are friends with me kids
Dustin- Who?
Mom- Those 3 knuckle heads (she points to Dane, Marissa, & I)
Kelly- You’re their mom?
Mom- Yup
Carnell- So that makes this (he looks to Dane)
Dane- Our record store
Bryan- Fo’ real! This is your store?
Mom- Well it’s my store but it’s a family business
Carnell- Word! That’s tight!

Just then the back door is knocked on again. My mom walks over to open it.

Mrs. Breeding- Um, I’m sorry but my boys are in there
Bryan- Mama!
Mom- (sees the lanyard necklace) Oh alright come in
Mrs. Breeding- There are A LOT of fans outside boys!
Dustin- We know
Kelly- It’s only right that B5 have the biggest fans
Mrs. Breeding- Eva, Samantha, Novy! Hey!
Eva- Holla!
Novy- What it do Mrs. B!
Sammi- What’s crackin’!
Mrs. Breeding- Oh hello! I remember you (she looks to me)
Lalani- Hi Mrs. Breeding, how have you been?
Mrs. Breeding- I’m doing alright, just taking care of my boys
Lalani- I hear ya
Dustin- Oh ma, this is Lalani’s mother the owner of the store
Mom- It’s a pleasure to meet you Mrs. Breeding, I’m Justina Batista
Mrs. Breeding- Oh just call me Adrian. Do you mind if I call you Justina?
Mom- No I don’t mind at all
Mrs. Breeding- So what will my boys be doing today?
Mom- Well just an ordinary autograph signing & maybe a little bit of picture taking. Is that all right with you Adrian?
Mrs. Breeding- No problem (she looks at the boys) You all ready for that?

They all nod to her in agreement.

Mom- Okay then, we have another maybe 20 minutes before they have to go out there so is there anything I can get for you?
Mrs. Breeding- I would love a cup of coffee
Mom- Okay no problem (she walks towards the door)
Mrs. Breeding- Just a second Justina I’ll go with you
Mom- Okay
They both head for the doors & make their way out to the second floor where all the extra stuff for the employees is. The record store has two floors, the ground floor is where all the merchandise is at & in the back of that floor is the VIP room where the important people (including employees) get to rest & just have a good time. The second floor is, like I said, where the boxes & extra merchandise is. It’s also where they have extra food & drinks.

Patrick- (sits on the sofa) Alright! They remembered to put the PS2 out!
Bryan- (grabs a peanut butter sandwich) Yup! They have to have my peanut butter sandwiches!
Dustin- Where’s my…(he looks around) Oh never mind there it is. I gotta at least have the Gatorade on hand! (he grabs a Gatorade)
Kelly- And my…(he looks around) Sour Patches! There they are!
Carnell- Okay they got their stuff but where’s my (looks to the table) There it is! (grabs a pack of Starburst)
Patrick- Hey you guys (he looks at Dane & I) Go ahead & grab some candy or something if you want
Dustin- There’s enough for everyone!

We all get a little something including Eva, Novy & Sammi. WE all just sit around & hang out for another 10 minutes until Mrs. Breeding comes back into the room with my mom.

Mom- Okay boys you ready?

The boys drop what their doing & get up.

Dustin- I’ll be right back mami, don’t worry (he kisses Eva)
Kelly- No remember Novy. If it gets crazy don’t get mad!
Novy- Do I ever get mad?
Kelly- No but you do get a little heated when I get slipped a number or two
Dustin- Oh yeah! Don’t trip about that okay Eva!
Eva- You know I’m not the jealous type. Your fans come first
Carnell- Sammi, think like Eva! Last time you got all sad cause some girl ripped my shirt. That’s not gonna happen again is it?
Sammi- No boo
Carnell- Okay baby, don’t get mad
Bryan- And Marissa!
Marissa- Yeah?
Bryan- (making fun of Dustin, Kelly, & Carnell) Don’t be mad if some girl gives me her number or rips my shirt okay? Cause you know how that seems to happen a lot to my brothers cause their drama kings & don’t know how to just shut up & get to work
Marissa- (playing along) *sigh* Okay I’ll try…but it so hard!

Dane & I laugh while Dustin & Kelly give Bryan the evil eye.

Mrs. Breeding- Get yo rears in gear! We gotta show to do boys!
They all primp themselves & get ready to make their appearance. Then they walk out the door while the screams of hormone raging teenaged girls absorb the building.

Eva- So Lalani, do you have a boyfriend?
Lalani- Yeah
Sammi- She’s going out with my brother fool!
Eva- Don’t call me a fool you punk!
Sammi- Anyways! So you’re my brother’s girl. I didn’t know it was you, you!
Lalani- Well it’s me (I giggle)
Novy- I would have thought you were Pat’s girl
Lalani- Why do you say that?
Novy- Didn’t you see how Pat looked at you? Last time I saw him focused on a girl so hard was when he was watching Beyonce on BET!
Lalani- (I giggle again) Naw, I’m with Javon though
Novy- Javon? Hey Sammi what does your brother look like again?
Sammi- Oh I got a picture on me…hold on it’s in my purse inside my wallet.

Sammi grabs her purse & rummages for her wallet. She opens her black wallet & pulls out a picture.

Sammi- Here you go (hands Novy the picture)
Novy- Aw! Your brother is so adorable!
Eva- Let me see! (she snatches the picture out of Novy’s hands)
Eva- Aww! This picture is so cute! You got a good one Lalani!
Lalani- Can I see?
Sammi- Yeah, our mom took that picture when we were on our way to the Usher concert

Lalani- It’s going pretty good. We only had one date though
Eva- Really? I could have sworn you would’ve been with Patrick though

I was kind of surprised that Eva mentioned Patrick. How did she know about Patrick & I?

Dane- You heard about that too?
Eva- Yeah well, we’re all really close to the boys but I remember Dustin mentioning Lalani & that Patrick liked her
Novy- (smaks Eva on the arm) Don’t be tellin’ her that! Maybe she didn’t even know! You just told her Pat’s feelings!
Lalani- No it’s okay. I already knew
Sammi- You did? Well no offense to my brother but why aren’t you with Pat then?
Lalani- It’s just something I’m not ready for. I mean, he’s seems like a good guy but I’m just not ready for him being away so much & working on his career. I just think I’d get in the way
Novy- Pssh! If we all thought that then we wouldn’t be here. It’s just you have to take a chance sometimes. Eva & I weren’t even going to consider Dustin & Kelly, but we did. I can honestly say I’m happy
Eva- So am I. Even though it’s hard sometimes not seeing your own boyfriend all the time but it’s good at least he’s getting out his dream & I respect that
Sammi- Well it’s not that hard if you really think of it. I’m happy for my Carnell. That’s what takes care of the loneliness for me.

We all laugh & hear a Kelly’s voice coming from a microphone outside in the front.

Novy- I guess it’s time for their interview

They rush to the door but don’t walk out. They stand by the door to get a better hearing of what’s being said. I can tell it’s my mom asking the questions. It’s still hard to hear with all the girls’ screams but they quiet down when my mom takes over.

Mom- Okay everybody! We’re going to ask the questions & then we’ll get to the autographs. So anybody have any questions they want to ask B5?…You!

She points to a girl in a pink tank top, she looks like she’s maybe 12 or 13 years old.

Girl- Yeah um, this question is for Carnell. Do you have a girlfriend?
Carnell- (chuckles) No, I’m single
Sammi- (back in the room) I hate when he says that
Eva- They have no choice, they have to say their single
Novy- Yeah but why! I mean! Their fans have to understand they won’t be single forever!
Eva- Yeah but it’s too early in their career to say they’re dating someone. They could lose fans over it

Mom- (back to the front) Okay…how ‘bout you!

She points to a older girl who looks 15 or 16 years old wearing a white tube top & B5 hat.

Girl- Yeah, this question is for all the boys. Do any of you have girlfriends?

Dustin- We’re too busy with singing & performing to have girlfriends right now
Patrick- Yeah but we do have our eyes on some beautiful ladies tonight!

He looks into the crowd while the girls go crazy with screams!

Mom- Okay enough questions on girlfriends! Okay you next! The one in the orange!

My mom points to a girl that looks really young in an orange spaghetti strapped tank top.

Girl- Yeah! Bryan! What’s your favorite video game to play?
Bryan- (chuckles) Um..all of ‘em! But let me tell ya! I kick all my brothers’ butts on Playstation!
Dustin- Cause you cheat all the time!
Kelly- No Dustin, it’s cause you don’t know how to play!

The girls laugh at their little fight while Carnell just looks at his brothers like they’re embarrassing him.

Mom- Okay enough questions! Time for the autographs!

The girls crowd around their table with their B5 CDs, posters, & pullouts while the girls & I in the back just chill.

Eva- Well it’s official we don’t exist
Novy- Well it’s not like we can get mad at them like you said Eva
Sammi- It’s not cool but we gotta deal

I sat there listening & watching their faces droop because their boyfriends can’t claim them. That’s when I started to picture myself as one of them. If was with Patrick, I would be sitting on that couch looking sad too. So it just showed me, was I ready for that?

An hour passed & it was already 8:00pm. Dane was talking on his cell phone with Shannel in the little private room next to us. Eva & Novy were eating the boys’ food & talking about funny stuff. I’m guessing that’s what they were talking about because occasionally one of them would bust out with a room-shaking laugh. Sammi & I just played some video games sipping juice. As for Marissa, she was watching “That’s So Raven” on the Disney channel on the other side of the room.

Meanwhile…

On the 2nd floor in the coffee room...

Mom- Yeah that’s the story. I’m sorry if I’m getting too personal with you Adrian
Mrs. Breeding- No it’s okay I understand. Believe me, it’s better you talk about it with someone
Mom- I don’t know what to do though. I mean I love my husband but I don’t know how I would handle it if he left the kids & me.
Mrs. Breeding- Well why don’t you talk to him about it?
Mom- I can’t. I’m too scared of what his answer may be. I know it might be something like “Our love just isn’t how it was in the beginning”
Mrs. Breeding- Hun, you have to ask him. It’ll hurt in the long run if you don’t ask him
Mom- It’s just I’m afraid for the kids! My son is old enough to handle it. It’s just Lalani & Marissa that worry me. Especially Marissa, she’s too young to see her daddy leave. If there was only something I could do
Mrs. Breeding- I got it!
Mom- What?
Mrs. Breeding- How about you & your husband do a little spontaneous trip! Like to a resort!
Mom- I don’t know the kids have school and…
Mrs. Breeding- I mean just you & Jay. You could go to this resort I heard about in Palm Springs it’s called “Korakia” it’s a beautiful place!
Mom- I don’t know Adrian. I don’t want to leave the kids alone at our house
Mrs. Breeding- I could watch them
Mom- Really? You would do that?
Mrs. Breeding- Sure! They seem like good kids besides they’re really good friends with my boys. They could stay at our house in South Beach
Mom- Wow! Adrian! I don’t know what to say!
Mrs. Breeding- Don’t say anything. Just call your travel agent & book the resort for you & Jay
Mom- Okay! I think I’ll do that! Oh but when should I book it for?
Mrs. Breeding- Be spontaneous! Book it for this weekend!

Finally it was 9:00pm. The boys came back into the room looking a little tired but still wired.

Bryan- Wow! That was crazy!
Kelly- Sho was!

Eva & Novy walk up to the boys with their arms folded as if they were in trouble.

Eva- Okay boys, you know the procedure

Carnell & Bryan go to their girls. Patrick walks over to me & saddles up in the seat next to mine. Dustin & Kelly stand in front of Eva & Novy while they dig into their pockets. Dustin pulls out a grip of little papers while Kelly pulls out the same amount.

Dustin- And that’s all I got I swear!
Kelly- Yeah me too!

They hand the papers to Novy & Eva.

Novy- These are the only numbers the girls gave you?
Kelly- Yup!
Eva- Okay Novy you know what to do

They take a seat at the table where the food is & start to look through the stack of papers. Dustin & Kelly go over to the same table to grab some snacks.

Novy- So what about you Patrick, you get any numbers?
Patrick- Yeah I got some
Eva- Some? More like a TON!
Patrick- Yeah but there’s only one I intend to call
Sammi- Oh really? (all hugged up on the couch with Carnell)
Patrick- Yeah, she was MADD SEXY! I saw that her name was Alicia!

I was starting to gag from overhearing Pat’s conversation when just then Mrs. Breeding & my mom walk into the room.

Mrs. Breeding- You boys ready to go?
Dustin- Noooo! I barely had time to talk with Eva!
Mrs. Breeding- I’m sorry baby but we have to go. You have to get to bed right now so you can go to school tomorrow
Patrick- Thank god it’ll be Friday!

They all walk over to their girl & say bye with a kiss on the cheek & a hug. My mom thanks each & every one of the boys for coming. While I say good bye to Mrs. Breeding & the rest of the girlfriends. After about 5 minutes the boys get ready & head for the door.

Patrick- Bye Lalani
Lalani- Bye Patrick (I give him a hug)
Mrs. Breeding- Oh I guess I should mention this now
Carnell- What?
Mrs. Breeding- Lalani, Dane, & Marissa are going to be staying with us for the weekend
B5- WHAT!

They all say it so loud again I feel like the windows shook from the force.

Dane- That true ma?
Justina- Yes, I was thinking me & your dad could take a short break & get away for the weekend

I knew why mom needed her little “getaway” so I went along with it.

Lalani- Oh that’s cool mom! (I look to Patrick) I guess we’ll be rooming for the weekend
Patrick- Yeah, I guess so (he says happily)
Dustin- Yeah! Dane! Man! We gonna kick it for the weekend!
Bryan- (he looks to Marissa) I can finally show you my room!
Kelly- Man this is gonna be BANANAS!

I was happy to hear that I would be staying the weekend with B5! Also that my mom & dad could talk & workout whatever they had. Just one thing bothered me, where were we going to stay in B5’s house?

After that whole thing went down at the record store we just headed home. Dane & Marissa were so excited to be spending the weekend with the boys. So was I, it’s just I couldn’t help but wonder how it would be when my mom & dad came back. Would this save the family? Was it going to do anything for my mom & dad’s marriage? We finally got home 15 minutes after leaving the store. We walked in & saw my dad in the kitchen. He was asleep with his head down on the table. He was just wearing a white beater & black sweat pants with white socks so we knew he was there for a while. We looked & saw the microwave with “Done” on the LED screen. I guess my dad wanted something to eat & fell asleep waiting.

Mom- Babies, go ahead upstairs & take a shower to get ready for bed. I’ll help your dad

Dane & Marissa followed my mom’s orders & went upstairs. I did too but halfway there I saw a black & gray duffle bag behind the couch. I knew it was my dad’s, after so many years of packing our stuff & moving I could recognize his duffle from a mile away. I picked it up lightly to see if anything was in it & it was a little heavy. I knew there was something inside it. I heard my mom trying to wake up my dad in the kitchen to I figured I’d move fast. I grabbed the duffle & took it to my room. Even though it was heavy it wasn’t too heavy to carry. I quickly jammed for the stairs when my mom & dad barely made it out of the kitchen.

As soon as I entered my room I threw it into my closet. I knew my mom would check on me as soon as she helped dad to the bedroom. I heard Dane’s shower going as well as the bathroom in the hall where Marissa took her showers. I quickly grabbed a towel & a set of things to take my shower.

15 minutes later…

I came out the shower clean & dressed for bed. I brushed my teeth & walked back into my room just when my mom walked in.

Mom- I just wanted to say good night
Lalani- Oh good night mom! (I said cheerfully)

I opened the covers in my bed & got under them while my mom moved closer to me.

Mom- I hope you don’t mind staying with the Breeding boys this weekend
Lalani- Nope, I don’t. They’re my friends anyway
Mom- Well I’m glad. Your father & I need this getaway
Lalani- I know mom
Mom- Well I’ll let you sleep (she kisses me on my forehead)
Lalani- (I kiss her on her cheek) Good night ma
Mom- Night

She gets up & walks out my room closing the door behind her. I turn to my side & look out the window at the moon. I started remembering when Patrick came though that window. The way he held me in his arms & the way his lips touched mine just overwhelmed me all over again. It was as if it was happening all over again. I felt that little tingle down my spine again. I was soothed by the thoughts & I started to drift off to sleep.

Later that Night...

I awoke to the sound of a tapping at my window. I quietly & quickly ran to the window. I looked down & saw Patrick there with his arms out. It looked a lot like the scene from the “All I Do” video but he wasn’t wearing an orange jacket. It isn’t too cold in Miami in October.
I couldn’t see a truck anywhere so I was wondering how he got here. I saw him go to the side of the house & grab the ladder. He mutely placed it against the wall under my window & proceeded to make his way up. I was in a loss of words, he looked so enticing as he came up with a cocky smile wiped across his face. I liked it & he knew it. He finally reached the top while I slowly opened the window. I helped him in but this time I was worried. I didn’t know if my mom & dad were for sure asleep. Not to mention Dane or Marissa but still I let him in. I quickly rushed for my door & locked it. Luckily, I can lock my door & have no questions asked about it, especially when I’m asleep.

Patrick- (whispering) I needed to see you Lalani
Lalani- Why?

Our conversation was mute & basically all whispers.

Patrick- I have to talk to you about this weekend
Lalani- What about it?

We walked over to my bed & took a seat.

Patrick- I don’t know about you but I really can’t wait

I could tell that wasn’t the reason he was sneaking into my room so late at night.

Lalani- That’s why came all the way over here for?
Patrick- No, *sigh* I came here to tell you something
Lalani- What?
Patrick- I…I…
Lalani- What?
Patrick- I…I can’t talk to you after this weekend
Lalani- What?
Patrick- I can’t be talking to you after this weekend
Lalani- Why not?
Patrick- (he gets up) I just can’t stand you anymore
Lalani- What?
Patrick- I hate your little games & how you are. I never thought I would say it to you but I just can’t stand how your handling us

It was so PAINFULL to hear him saying these words to me.

Lalani- Well Patrick I just can’t be with you. I just…(he interrupts)
Patrick- I know, because you don’t feel good enough for me. That’s another thing I despise about you Lalani! I hate how you think of yourself! Look, I’m sorry about all of this but we just can’t have a friendship or anything going on for us. I’m sorry (he turns around & heads for the window)

Tears overcame me. I even tried to catch my breath as my heart jumped up my throat. He knew I was crying & paused before he made his exit. He turned around as I got up to beg him not to do this.

Patrick- I’m sorry. This is just something I have to do. I can’t be around someone who doesn’t love me when all I have is love for them
Lalani- Please Patrick, don’t do this (tears dripped off my face)
Patrick- I’m sorry…(he wipes a tear from my eye) but I just can’t know you

He makes his way out my window & down the ladder as I keep telling him on the way down.

Lalani- I LOVE YOU PATRICK! I DO! DON’T DO THIS! I LOVE YOU! NO! PLEASE!! I NEED YOU!

Just then I feel like I was being pulled as I gasp.

Lalani- *gasp* (silently) It was a dream! Oh my god!

I look around & see my window closed shut. I look at the clock by my bed & see the time is 2:30am.

Lalani- (to myself) Oh my god! It was a dream! Thank god!

I felt so relieved to realize it was a dream! I never felt so happy to wake up before. Just at that moment I see my closet door. That’s when I remember dad’s duffle bag! I throw the sheets off of my & make my way for my closet. I slide the door quietly & pull out dad’s duffle bag. I pull it over to my desk chair by the window. I use the moonlight as my guide while I open the bag. I slip open the zipper & am shocked to find that there is something in the bag!

Lalani- Oh my GOD!

I was in complete shock as I lifted the contents out of my dad’s duffle bag. It was a dark blue shirt, which I moved closer to the moonlight & discovered it was a uniform. It was a Miami PD uniform! I looked closer to the badge that was on the left pocket it said “BATISTA” in big shiny letters. My dad is a cop! Suddenly it all made sense! He was always staying late to study to become a cop! Then I realized he wouldn’t tell my mom or even us so we wouldn’t try to change his mind! I was so HAPPY I started laughing & even doing a little two-step dance. I couldn’t believe it! It all made sense! I decided to move the duffle back downstairs so dad wouldn’t know what’s up. So I quickly pick up the bag & made my way down. When I finally reached downstairs I placed the duffle bag back behind the sofa & turned to go back to my room. As soon as I turned I was greeted by a tall, muscular shadow.

Lalani- Uh oh
Dad- What are you doing down here?
Lalani- I was…uh
Dad- I saw you Lalani, you carried my duffle bag down here. Did you see what’s inside?
Lalani- Yeah, I’m sorry dad. Am I in trouble?
Dad- (he chuckles) No pumpkin, I know how curious you can get. You got that from me. (he reaches for his bag)
Lalani- Dad are you really a cop?
Dad- Yup! That’s why I was always staying late at “work” I was studying Law Enforcement
Lalani- Why didn’t you tell mom or me?
Dad- Cause I know you guys wouldn’t want me to do it. This is something I always wanted to do, I just figured I’d do it now before I get too old.
Lalani- That’s cool dad! I’m so happy for you!
Dad- Thank you pumpkin & don’t worry about my safety. You know I’ll be okay
Lalani- Yes I know you’ll be okay
Dad- Plus! This means sense I’m out of the Air Force, no more moving for sure!
Lalani- Yes! Thank the lord!
Dad- I know, well you better go back to sleep. You have to get up early for school.
Lalani- I know dad, are you still going with mom on her getaway?
Dad- Getaway? What are you talking about?
Lalani- Oh my bad, nothing!

I make my way back upstairs to get my sleep back in order. I was just relieved that nothing was going to happen for my family. My dad is a cop now & I couldn’t be happier for him.

I went back to sleep & next thing I knew my alarm went off. I felt a little tired but not too much so I got out of bed & hit the showers. I was in a good mood surprisingly. Even though my nightmare with Patrick last night nearly brought me to my knees in terror & fright. It was okay though because I knew that things would work out for the best. When I arrived downstairs I was shocked to see my dad awake.

Lalani- Mornin’ dad. Where’s mom?
Dad- Oh your mom was tired from last night’s event so I thought I’d let her sleep it off
